Royal Navy Deck Watch as documented in 'Military Timepieces' by Wesolowski (pages 53 & 54) although this particular example has the earlier and much larger case:-

'These watches were supplied to the Royal Navy in 1942 and are fitted with a high quality 15 jewel movement and centre seconds hand. After the war the deck watches went into storage at the Chronometer section of the Hydrographic Department at Hermonceaux Castle; there during the 1950's they had their enamel dials replaced with special decimal dials using smaller hour and minute hands. the dial layout gives emphasis to minutes, which are picked out in red on the intermediate chapter ring and an outer ring has been calibrated to indicate 100 units per minute. These watches were particularly useful for rapid mathematical calculations.'

Later examples of this watch had a movement by Zenith fitted. The movement on this example is by Matthey Tissot.

This example is in very good overall condition. The dial hands and perspex glass are all good condition and the movement is keeping excellent time. I have 2 of these watches and when set together they will maintain time exactly in synch. for days on end. Interestingly my other example has a heavy chrome plated finish while this example has a nickel plated finish. The case is in good condition - the rear case showing some light scratches from it's service usage. Rear case and bezel are both screw fit.

The rear case is marked 0552/521-0243 and has the issue number 716. The inside of the rear case has the reference number 3977417.

The watch measures 54mm diameter and 82mm across the case to the top of the pendant. Thickness is 15mm.

A nice heavy and accurate Royal Navy pocket watch that is a real piece of history.
